Job Description

A mechanical engineer at Redwood Materials will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating high-power energy storage and conversion products, leading a team, and ensuring seamless mechanical and electrical system integration for large-scale manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate high-power energy storage products, including thermal management, structural design, and packaging.
  • Perform mechanical analysis such as CFD and FEA to validate designs and ensure performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers for seamless mechanical integration.
  • Select materials and components in coordination with suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead and manage a mechanical engineering team, including recruiting, mentoring, and project management.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in power conversion or energy storage products, ideally for mass production of 10,000 units per year or higher
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks
  • Experience with analysis tools such as CFD and FEA
  • Hands-on design, prototyping, and launch experience in medium-to-high volume production
  • Understanding of the relationship between high voltage electronics and the mechanical systems that support and surround them, e.g., insulation systems and thermal systems
  • Ability to perform mechanical analysis CFD, FEA, thermal, etc. to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions
  • Experience developing tools, infrastructure, and design practices for a growing team
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage work in a startup environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with all levels of the organization and presenting to internal and external executives

Compensation/salary range: $117,500 - $158,500 USD
