Job Description
A Chemical Engineering Technician at Redwood Materials supports the development, monitoring, and optimization of chemical and metallurgical processes in laboratory, pilot, and production environments, contributing to sustainable battery material recycling and manufacturing efforts.
Responsibilities
- •Monitor, control, and optimize chemical and metallurgical processes across lab, pilot, and production environments
- •Assist engineers with process startup, testing, and experimentation
- •Perform meticulous data collection and observation recording during processes
- •Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain processing equipment
- •Assemble and fabricate process equipment to support operations
- •Prepare and analyze laboratory samples
- •Follow safety protocols and handle chemicals properly in accordance with EHS standards
Requirements
- •Perform a variety of tasks including building, monitoring, controlling, and optimizing chemical and metallurgical processes and unit operations in pilot, production, or laboratory environments under moderate supervision.
- •Support engineers in starting up and testing new processes and equipment, and performing experiments.
- •Follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures meticulously.
- •Collect and observe data accurately during process monitoring and experiments.
- •Demonstrate basic knowledge of math, chemistry, and/or computer skills appropriate to the assignment.
- •Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- •Maintain safety consciousness and learn applicable EHS standards and proper chemical handling techniques.
- •Work independently and safely with minimal supervision.
- •Possess an A.S. or B.S. degree in a related field.
- •Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain relevant processing equipment.
- •Assemble and fabricate process equipment to support operations.
- •Prepare and analyze laboratory samples.
- •Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA rules and regulations, chemical hazards, and industrial safety programs.
- •Work in challenging conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes for extended periods while wearing full PPE suits and head covers.
- •Properly use safety equipment such as safety glasses, fitted masks, PAPR, Tyvek suits, safety shoes, and other personal protective equipment when necessary.
- •Physically able to stand, lift, and carry equipment up to 50 lbs, including lifting 30 lbs as needed.
- •Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
- •Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- •Able to work a shift schedule with flexibility as needed.
- •Be physically capable of working hands-on in a manufacturing environment, including operating equipment and standing for extended periods.
