The Senior Staff Quality Engineer is responsible for designing and executing system testing strategies to ensure the stability, resiliency, and performance of storage products in demanding environments, influencing release decisions and maintaining industry leadership in storage reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Define and implement the system testing strategy for major product releases, focusing on stability, longevity, and resiliency under high-pressure workloads.
Design complex, realistic test scenarios that include mixed workloads, fault injections, non-disruptive upgrades, and hardware failovers to identify rare issues.
Manage the health, instrumentation, and triage of large-scale system testing environments, addressing failures and distinguishing between infrastructure noise and critical bugs.
Serve as the primary technical authority for release candidate approval, establishing criteria and providing data-driven go/no-go recommendations based on testing results.
Collaborate with automation teams to develop dashboards, workload drivers, and automated log analysis tools to enhance system observability and issue detection.
Requirements
12 years of experience in System Testing, Reliability, or Performance Engineering for complex distributed systems, with a proven track record of finding critical issues within large-scale storage environments.
Deep Storage Domain Mastery, including advanced understanding of high-availability architectures, replication, snapshots, and system behavior under sustained load across block and file protocols.
Exceptional skills in performing forensics across Linux hosts, networks, and storage logs to root-cause failures in environments involving VMware, Windows, or Kubernetes.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior and mid-level engineers and influence cross-functional stakeholders such as Development, Product Management, and Support on release risk and quality standards.
Strong proficiency in Python or Shell scripting for extending automation frameworks and integrating long-running validation into CI/CD pipelines.
Ability to define the end-to-end System Testing strategy for major releases, focusing on validating stability, longevity, and resiliency under high-pressure production workloads.
Experience in building complex, realistic test beds that combine mixed workloads (block, file, object), fault injections, non-disruptive upgrades, and hardware failovers to surface race conditions and memory leaks.
Experience in owning the health and instrumentation of large System Testing environments and leading high-speed triage of complex failures.
Ability to serve as a release gatekeeper by defining entry and exit criteria, and providing data-driven go/no-go recommendations based on multi-day soak test results.
Experience partnering with automation teams to develop dashboards, workload drivers, and automated log-triage tools to identify and resolve system-level issues.
