Job Description
Support the operation and maintenance of Planet's large constellation of Earth observation satellites by developing automation tools, analyzing data, troubleshooting anomalies, and contributing to mission success in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day satellite operations and assessments based on data analysis
- Triage, diagnose, and resolve satellite anomalies in space
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate mission operations and generate metrics
- Perform daily checks on the satellite fleet to ensure health and performance
- Conduct on-orbit experiments and test software in space and ground environments
- Collaborate with hardware and software experts to develop procedures and improve operations
- Lead projects to enhance satellite operation processes
Requirements
- Ongoing Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering, Software, or Science related field from an accredited college or technical school
- Software development experience in Python or equivalent programming language
- Passion for space technology and its applications
- Self-starter that proactively tackles problems and brings in their own ideas
- Data-driven mindset and comfort with statistical analysis
- Team player with outstanding communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to support day-to-day operations of satellite constellation, including making assessments based on data analysis, triaging and resolving anomalies, running on-orbit experiments, testing and rolling out software on ground and in space
- Ability to develop and enhance existing tools to automate operations
- Perform daily checks on the satellite fleet
- Identify, triage, determine root cause, and resolve satellite anomalies in space
- Develop and maintain scripts to aggregate satellite data and generate metrics
- Use existing and new metrics for data analysis to assess the performance and health of satellites
- Proactively improve existing operational processes
- Lead standalone projects to shape satellite operations
- Work from Berlin office 2 days per week as part of a hybrid role
- Access to U.S. and German EU export-controlled information without additional export licensing, which requires the ability to access all applicable export-controlled information
