Job Description
The Operations Research Engineer will develop software and tools for optimal scheduling and mission planning of Planet's satellite constellation, working on complex aerospace problems to improve satellite operations and enable future missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and architect software solutions for optimal satellite tasking and mission planning.
- Work on complex applied mathematics problems related to orbital mechanics and aerospace engineering.
- Develop and maintain production-level code and automation tools for satellite constellation management.
- Contribute to improving the operations and efficiency of existing satellite fleets and future missions.
- Mentor team members and establish software development strategies within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, aerospace engineering, physics or related technical field
- 6 years of total relevant experience in software development or related fields
- Software development experience in C and Python
- Experience maintaining peer-reviewed code, attention to quality including automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics and space mission operations
- Ability to carry out first-principles analysis and operationalize MVP solutions
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
- This position requires access to export-controlled information, and employment or hiring of a contractor is contingent upon the candidate's ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Salary Range (varies by location): 136,000 - 170,000 USD (NYC), 144,500 - 180,600 USD (San Francisco), 127,000 - 158,700 USD (US National)
