Job Description
The role involves ensuring compliance with international trade laws and regulations related to export and import activities for a space and data company, including managing licensing processes, providing training, and interfacing with government agencies to support global operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage export-import license applications to support international sales and operations.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of export-import authorizations, including internal training, regulatory filings, and recordkeeping.
- Provide export-import compliance training and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Interface with U.S. government agencies to support trade compliance initiatives.
- Interpret and apply US government export regulations such as ITAR and EAR.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures related to export-import compliance.
- Review and approve international travel, foreign visit requests, and export/import transactions.
- Assist in reviewing trade compliance terms in proposals and contracts.
- Document export classifications and track new technology developments.
- Prepare filings such as Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Classification Requests, and Advisory Opinions.
- Negotiate and resolve export-import control matters with stakeholders.
- Support sanctions and anti-bribery compliance efforts, including analyzing sanctions implications and conducting due diligence.
- Conduct compliance audits, assessments, investigations, and implement corrective actions.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years experience in international trade compliance, legal, or contracting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience reading and applying the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
- Solid work experience in the satellite and/or aerospace defense industry with past work experience in contracting, international trade, and/or legal areas.
- Ability to prepare and manage all types of DDTC and BIS licenses authorizations and ensure legal compliance to maximize business outcomes for Planet.
- Experience managing the full lifecycle of export import authorizations, including internal training, preparation and submission of post-approval regulatory filings, review of export activity, and recordkeeping.
- Experience conducting export import training and providing formal and informal communication guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding export import compliance.
- Experience serving as interface with U.S. government agencies in support of trade compliance initiatives.
- Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures related to export import compliance, including internal technology control plans.
- Experience reviewing and approving international travel requests, foreign visit requests, and export import transactions of hardware, data, and services.
- Experience reviewing trade compliance terms for proposals and contracts, and providing recommendations.
- Experience working with technical subject matter experts to document export classification, review assessments, and track new technology developments.
- Experience preparing filing Commodity Jurisdiction Requests, Commodity Classification Requests, and Advisory Opinions as needed.
- Ability to make formal presentations in meetings or training environments.
- Experience negotiating export import control matters with internal and external stakeholders and resolving issues in a win-win manner.
- Experience supporting sanctions and anti-bribery anti-corruption compliance matters, including analyzing economic and financial sanctions and supporting enhanced due diligence review of third-party intermediaries.
- Ability to support conducting compliance audits, assessments, investigations, implementing corrective actions, and drafting findings disclosures.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must have the ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without requiring additional export licensing, as employment is contingent upon this access.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all deliverables.
- Strong commitment to integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with teams.
- Proven ability to influence and align stakeholders across multiple departments without direct reporting authority.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Salary range: $89,200 - $126,800 USD depending on location and experience
