Job Description

The Cell Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring quality in battery cell development and manufacturing through testing, inspection, and statistical data analysis, while driving process improvements and compliance with quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish quality controls and inspection methodologies for cell manufacturing processes.
  • Lead failure analysis, root cause analysis, and corrective action with cross-functional teams.
  • Drive process and product improvements through problem-solving teams.
  • Develop Process Flow, PFMEA, and Control Plans with cross-functional teams.
  • Install and maintain QC lab equipment for quality control.
  • Develop and implement quality standards and procedures for cell manufacturing processes.
  • Train quality technicians to perform inspections for raw materials and products.
  • Utilize problem-solving methodologies for effective root cause analysis.
  • Monitor and improve Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Complete and monitor capability studies on process and product characteristics.
  • Perform measurement system analysis and support calibration of measurement equipment.
  • Support containment and product disposition in case of nonconformance.
  • Perform Layered Process Audits to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Track KPIs and monitor performance through trend analysis.
  • Open continuous improvement projects for negative trends.
  • Support the Quality Management System and internal/external audits.

Requirements

  • 4 years of relevant manufacturing industry experience.
  • 2 years of Li-Ion cell manufacturing experience or understanding of Li-ion battery cell.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Quality, Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience of quality control in a highly automated and high-speed manufacturing industry.
  • Experience launching products from a tier I level in the automotive industry.
  • APQP PPAP experience.
  • Proven track record of driving quality improvements in a mass manufacturing setting.
  • Expertise and hands-on experience in high purity chemicals and impacts on device performance and manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding and application of Quality Core Tools APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA and SPC.
  • Quality Management System knowledge IATF 6949, ISO9001.
  • Ability to perform measurement system analysis through Gage R&R.
  • Ability to perform Layered Process Audits reinforcing compliance to standards.
  • Ability to support the Quality Management System and any internal external audits.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to walk, move around, and/or travel as needed.
  • Ability to pick-up items weighing 35 lbs.
