Job Description
The Director of Development Project Execution is responsible for leading the site design, permitting, and early project development phases of renewable energy battery storage projects, ensuring they are ready for construction while managing a team and coordinating with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and scale the site design and permitting phase of a portfolio of BESS projects from handover until they are shovel ready.
- Lead a team of project managers, permitting leads, and engineers to develop robust, cost-effective, and compliant BESS designs.
- Create and execute permitting strategies, negotiate with authorities having jurisdiction, and address high-stakes permitting issues.
- Oversee budgets and schedules related to site design and permitting, ensuring projects meet time, cost, and quality targets.
- Develop and improve processes, tools, and standards for site design and permitting to enhance efficiency and reduce risks.
- Identify major project risks and develop solutions to mitigate challenges during project development.
- Supervise the final preparation and handover of shovel-ready projects to the construction team for execution.
- Report project milestones, risks, budgets, and key decisions to executive leadership, maintaining clear communication.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in a technical project development field such as architecture, engineering, or infrastructure real estate development.
- At least 5 years of experience in a direct leadership role, with a proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team.
- Experience in managing all facets of project execution, including detailed design, permitting, schedule creation, and budget adherence, to successfully bring complex projects to a state that is ready for construction.
- Proven ability to operate at a strategic level and communicate effectively with C-suite executives and external stakeholders.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing multi-million dollar development budgets.
- Experience managing development projects within dense and complex urban regulatory environments, such as New York City, is highly desirable.
