Job Description

The Development Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of solar project development, including permitting, land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and coordination with engineering and finance teams to ensure successful project execution from inception to construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate project development activities, including permitting, land acquisition, and stakeholder engagement
  • Prepare project schedules, budgets, and staffing plans to ensure timely permitting and compliance
  • Negotiate with regulatory agencies and landowners to secure permits and approvals
  • Engage with stakeholders such as community members, utilities, and consultants to advance projects and assess risks
  • Oversee project budgets, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
  • Review engineering designs, environmental assessments, and interconnection studies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to modify project plans, schedules, and budgets based on evolving conditions
  • Represent the company in policy discussions, hearings, and public relations efforts related to project siting and permitting

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience in renewable energy, real estate, and/or a land use related field.
  • Understanding of financial models and management of budgeting cash flow.
  • The proven ability to create and manage schedules and budgets to required margins.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage multiple projects.
  • A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter, with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Experience with developing stakeholder relationships, permitting authorities, and knowledge of utility interconnection requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities often across functional and operational lines.
  • Ability to contribute to an amicable working environment with other associates and employees.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of time management and organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at various stages of delivery.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and stress while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
  • Excellent PC computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and Windows.
  • Ability to travel and access sites of varying terrain, including within the Midwest, with up to 20% travel time, including nights.
  • Must carry an active driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
