Job Description

The Lead Solar Technician is responsible for providing technical leadership, ensuring safety, quality, and operational excellence at solar energy sites, while managing maintenance, troubleshooting, and team development to support the company's renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage site safety programs, conduct safety inspections, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical system issues, perform inspections, and resolve operational problems.
  • Operate and maintain solar plant equipment, including managing maintenance schedules and inventory.
  • Provide technical mentorship and training to site technicians.
  • Oversee documentation, work orders, and inventory control related to maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Inverter Specialist or Solar Technician with 3 years experience
  • Knowledgeable of renewable energy peculiarities and expertise in DC array technology
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic electrical calculations, read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow, working independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform necessary physical activity, including lifting up to 80 Lbs.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
  • Minimum Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry, NFPA 70E Workplace Electrical Safety, First Aid, CPR, AED
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours as necessary
  • Maintain site vegetation through routine mowing and spraying
  • Operate and maintain the plant in compliance with established standards and procedures
  • Troubleshoot system problems and resolve issues in a timely manner using equipment such as digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and IV curve tracers
  • Perform daily mechanical and electrical inspections to ensure equipment operates safely and optimally
  • Manage and support contractors and OEM vendors ensuring safety protocols and emergency procedures are followed
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including work orders, time entries, and emergency response protocols
  • Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and spare parts inventory usage, ensuring inventory control and replenishment
  • Ensure high-quality control of tools, vehicles, and materials
  • Support site safety programs, conduct safety inspections and briefings, and act as the on-site technical safety expert
  • Provide training mentorship for site technicians
  • Support site team in operational excellence, safety, quality, and performance standards
  • Support talent rotation and succession planning as needed
  • Maintain site safety culture and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Support process implementation and contribute to process development and improvement
  • Build organizational capability through site-wide training and development programs
  • Support regional travel as needed to support various site demands
