Job Description

The Solar Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems, ensuring efficient site operations and adherence to safety protocols. The role involves inspections, system monitoring, diagnostics, and supporting installation and maintenance activities across multiple OEM platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC solar and energy storage systems
  • Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and support commissioning, testing, and system modifications
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS software
  • Develop and implement safety procedures, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO)
  • Read, interpret, and develop work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
  • Support installation tasks such as torquing, calibration, and use of specialized tools
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms and develop system diagnostics
  • Communicate site conditions and technical findings to stakeholders
  • Train and mentor junior technicians and develop work plans and maintenance schedules

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (O M) experience requirements vary by position level.
  • Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, operating SCADA systems, and using CMMS for maintenance tracking.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in SCADA and CMMS applications.
  • Ability to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components.
  • Ability to monitor plant operations through SCADA and contribute to commissioning, testing, and system modifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance as required.
  • Ability to work with remote operators to identify and resolve site issues efficiently.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using CMMS software.
  • Ability to develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests.
  • Physical and mental fitness to stand, walk (including covering 2 miles in a day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Maintain clear visual acuity with or without corrective lenses for reading schematics and working with tools and meters.
  • Handle precise tasks that require fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination.
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours and participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
  • Follow company policies on drug-free and alcohol-free workplace compliance.
  • Develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules.
  • Serve as the primary customer interface, communicating site conditions, needs, and technical findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians, fostering safety standards and adherence to industry practices.
  • May be required to lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms, including controls interface and system diagnostics.
  • Develop and implement safety procedures such as Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO).
  • Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols.
  • Possibly required advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning.
  • Possibly required advanced experience of at least 4 years in the solar industry for higher-level positions.
  • Travel regionally to support various site demands as needed.
