Job Description

The Solar Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing utility-scale solar PV and energy storage systems, ensuring efficient site operations while following safety protocols and supporting system monitoring, testing, and system modifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC solar PV and energy storage systems
  • Monitor plant operations through SCADA systems and support commissioning, testing, and system modifications
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance activities
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS software
  • Develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans
  • Read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols
  • Support and lead advanced troubleshooting across multiple OEM platforms
  • Assist in installation tasks including torquing, calibration, and use of specialized tools
  • Communicate site conditions, needs, and technical findings to stakeholders
  • Train and mentor junior technicians in safety standards and industry practices

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in large-scale solar operations and maintenance (O M) experience requirements vary by position level.
  • Competency in industrial or utility power operations, troubleshooting, and general maintenance procedures.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, operating SCADA systems, and using CMMS for maintenance tracking.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in SCADA and CMMS applications.
  • Ability to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs on AC and DC systems, including inverters, PV modules, transformers, switchgear, and high-voltage components.
  • Ability to monitor plant operations through SCADA and contribute to commissioning, testing, and system modifications.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), ensuring compliance with site procedures.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems and support maintenance as required.
  • Ability to work with remote operators to identify and resolve site issues efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using CMMS software.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop complex work procedures, schematics, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to develop and implement Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical work plans.
  • Ability to verify tooling and parts against work plans, relay necessary adjustments, and generate reports on findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians, fostering safety standards and adherence to industry practices.
  • Develop and execute work plans and maintenance schedules.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk (including covering 2 miles in a day), climb, bend, and kneel for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry tools or equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Maintain clear visual acuity with or without corrective lenses for reading schematics and working with tools and meters.
  • Handle precise tasks requiring fine motor skills and strong hand-eye coordination.
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours as necessary and participate in on-call rotation schedule.
  • Advanced positions require at least 4 years of direct or related experience in the solar industry.
  • Strong experience with industrial control interfaces and troubleshooting multiple OEM systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of LOTO procedures and electrical work planning.
  • Proficiency in creating complex schematics and work instructions.
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing requests.
  • Follow company policies on drug-free and alcohol-free workplace compliance to ensure safety and readiness on the job.
