Job Description
The Lead Solar Technician is responsible for providing technical leadership and operational management of solar energy sites, ensuring safety, quality, and performance standards are met while supervising maintenance activities and supporting team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee site safety programs, conduct safety inspections, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain solar plant systems to ensure safety, quality, and optimal performance.
- Manage equipment maintenance schedules, spare parts inventory, and documentation of work activities.
- Lead and develop site team through training, mentorship, and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
- Support contractors and vendors, ensuring quality work and adherence to standards.
- Perform electrical and mechanical inspections, troubleshooting electrical components and system issues.
- Maintain site vegetation and perform routine site maintenance activities.
- Support regional and site-specific operational processes, including emergency response and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Valid Driver's License
- Inverter Specialist or Solar Technician with 3 years experience
- Knowledgeable of renewable energy peculiarities and expertise in DC array technology
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform basic electrical calculations, read and interpret electrical schematics
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow, working independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to perform necessary physical activity, including lifting up to 80 Lbs.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Minimum Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Training for General Industry, NFPA 70E Workplace Electrical Safety, First Aid, CPR, AED
- Experience operating and maintaining solar plant equipment in compliance with established standards and procedures
- Experience troubleshooting electrical components using equipment such as digital multi-meters, meggers, amp clamps, and IV curve tracers
- Experience conducting daily mechanical and electrical inspections to ensure equipment operates safely and optimally
- Experience managing and supporting contractors and OEM vendors ensuring safety and operational standards are met
- Experience maintaining accurate and timely documentation, including work orders, time entries, and emergency response protocols
- Experience overseeing equipment maintenance schedules and spare parts inventory usage
- Experience maintaining inventory control to ensure adequate stock levels of equipment and materials
- Experience maintaining high-quality control of tools, vehicles, and materials
- Experience supporting site safety programs, conducting safety inspections and briefings, and acting as on-site technical safety expert
- Experience providing training mentorship for site technicians
- Experience operating and maintaining plant in compliance with safety and operational standards
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical system problems and resolving issues in a timely manner
- Experience supporting site vegetation management through routine mowing and spraying
- Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as necessary and maintain on-call rotation schedule
- Physical ability to perform required physical activities, including lifting up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
