Job Description
The Senior Backend Engineer will develop and enhance products within the Flexibility team, focusing on making energy systems more flexible through automation and innovative solutions that support renewable energy integration and decarbonization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend products and tools to enhance energy flexibility.
- Build features for products like Intelligent Octopus that automate demand shifting for customers with electric vehicles, home batteries, or smart heating devices.
- Manage and optimize systems for saving sessions and free electricity sessions to reduce customer bills.
- Oversee the operation of large grid-scale batteries to balance the energy system.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable solutions that support renewable energy integration and decarbonization.
Requirements
- Experience as a Backend Engineer or in a similar role developing backend systems.
- Proficiency in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and reliable backend services and APIs.
- Strong knowledge of programming languages commonly used in backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js, or similar).
- Experience working with cloud platforms and deploying backend services in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with building and working with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
- Experience with database design and management, including SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Understanding of security best practices for backend systems.
- Ability to work effectively in an agile, open, and collaborative team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, operations, and data teams.
- Willingness and ability to work in the UK, with a preference for candidates who can work in the London office.
- Ability to work remotely if applicable, with the understanding that the candidate must be able to work within UK time zones and regulations.
