Job Description

Lead and manage the embedded software engineering team developing firmware for MOPO's solar battery systems, focusing on designing, testing, and deploying robust embedded solutions that enhance battery performance, communication, and diagnostics to support renewable energy access across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the embedded software engineering team developing firmware for MOPO Batteries.
  • Design, develop, and test firmware for embedded systems using ESP32 microcontrollers to manage battery performance, communication, and diagnostics.
  • Provide technical leadership and set architectural direction for firmware development.
  • Establish best practices and ensure the delivery of robust firmware solutions.
  • Drive the scaling of firmware development across multiple markets in Africa.

Requirements

  • Experience in leading embedded software engineering teams, including building and growing the team, establishing best practices, and steering firmware development as the company scales across the continent.
  • Proven technical leadership skills in embedded systems development, including providing technical leadership, setting architectural direction, and ensuring the delivery of robust firmware solutions.
  • Experience designing and testing firmware that runs in embedded systems, specifically working with ESP32 microcontrollers to build embedded systems that manage battery performance, communication, and diagnostics.
  • Ability to develop firmware solutions that enable reliable, renewable energy access for thousands of customers and support expansion into e-mobility solutions.
  • Experience in managing the development of embedded software for battery management systems or similar energy-related hardware.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and implement best practices in firmware development and embedded software engineering.
  • Experience working in or with renewable energy, battery systems, or related fields is preferred but not explicitly mandatory; however, the role requires working with energy distribution networks and intelligent battery systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to provide technical guidance and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a Sheffield-based team environment (physical presence or remote coordination as applicable).
