Job Description
A Data Scientist at Octopus Energy Trading will build data pipelines and develop insights using classical and machine learning techniques to support energy trading and forecasting, primarily focusing on the GB intraday power market to help optimize energy flexibility and grid management.
Key Responsibilities
- Build data pipelines integrating internal and external data sources.
- Create market-leading insights using classical and machine learning techniques.
- Develop demand, renewables, and transmission system fundamentals forecasts for the GB intraday power market.
Requirements
- Experience in building data pipelines that bring together internal and external data sources.
- Ability to create market-leading insights using both classical statistical techniques and machine learning techniques.
- Experience analyzing demand, renewables, and transmission system fundamentals forecasts.
- Familiarity with the GB intraday power market.
- Proficiency in data analysis, data modeling, and forecasting techniques.
- Comfortable working with large and complex datasets from multiple sources.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative data-driven solutions.
- Experience with programming languages and tools commonly used in data science, such as Python, R, or similar.
- Understanding of energy markets, trading, and forecasting is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills to present insights and findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
