Job Description
The role involves leading a team of engineers to develop and oversee AI components for Nuro's autonomous collision avoidance system, focusing on safety, reliability, and integration within self-driving vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering technical excellence and motivation.
- Define the technical roadmap and strategy for AI components within the backup autonomy system.
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models for obstacle detection and motion prediction.
- Guide data mining and analysis to predict conflicts and inform emergency maneuver decisions.
- Collaborate with controls and behavior teams to ensure seamless integration and safe emergency maneuvers.
- Work with operations and systems teams to validate collision prevention against vehicle standards and oversee testing methodologies.
- Lead large-scale simulated testing to identify risks and differentiate failure modes of backup systems.
- Direct implementation and testing of fallback driving modes, including perception and behavior model adjustments.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure high-quality, timely execution.
Requirements
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Statistics, Physics, Math or another quantitative area.
- At least 4 years of industry engineering experience with a significant focus on AI, robotics, autonomous systems, or ADAS.
- At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership or management role, leading software engineering teams.
- At least 2 years of dedicated expertise in machine learning.
- Strong proficiency in C and Python programming languages.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical projects from design to completion.
