Job Description
A Senior Staff Safety Management Systems Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and improving safety management systems for autonomous vehicle operations, ensuring safety policies, risk assessments, and safety culture are integrated across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and improve the company's Safety Management System (SMS) for autonomous vehicle operations
- Develop safety policies, risk management processes, reporting mechanisms, and assurance activities
- Lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning for AV activities
- Establish and promote safety culture through training and awareness programs
- Manage safety reporting systems and oversee incident and near-miss investigations
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams for regulatory engagement and audits
- Support continuous safety improvement based on data, incident trends, and feedback
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Engineering, Safety, Systems, or related field
- 5-8 years of experience in Safety Management System (SMS) roles for high-risk industries such as automotive, aviation, or rail
- Proven record designing or operating a cross-functional Safety Management System (SMS)
- Depth in risk management, safety culture, and performance measurement
- Strong communication skills
- Strong change management skills
- Experience in designing or implementing safety policies, risk management processes, reporting mechanisms, and assurance activities
- Ability to lead hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning for autonomous vehicle activities
- Experience in establishing and promoting safety culture, including training and awareness programs for all business units
- Experience managing safety reporting systems and overseeing incident and near-miss investigations
- Experience collaborating with legal and compliance teams for regulatory engagement and audits
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range between $160,360 and $291,150, plus annual performance bonus and equity
