Job Description
The Autonomous Vehicle Operator role involves operating and testing self-driving vehicles, collecting data, troubleshooting operational issues, performing vehicle inspections, and occasionally engaging with the public and company leadership to support autonomous vehicle technology development and deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous test vehicles in manual and autonomous modes under various traffic conditions while following safety protocols
- Collect and provide detailed feedback on real-world data to engineering teams
- Troubleshoot operational issues in real-time and collaborate with dispatch to resolve them
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks
- Educate the public about autonomous vehicle technology and behaviors when interacting with them
- Conduct high-profile ridealongs for senior leadership, stakeholders, and engineers, ensuring safety and professionalism
- Monitor onboard safety and navigational systems to maintain situational awareness
Requirements
- Possession of a current valid California driver’s license and having been in possession of a US driver’s license for at least 3 years.
- Ability to reliably work 5 days a week on one of the following shifts: Morning 6:00am-2:30pm PT (Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday), Afternoon/Evening 2:00pm-10:30pm PT (Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday), or Overnight 10:00pm-6:30am PT (Wednesday to Sunday).
- Ability to operate a vehicle in manual and autonomous mode for up to 8 hours per day in diverse traffic conditions while adhering to proper safety and operational driving procedures.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Ability to perform daily vehicle inspection checks before and after missions.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, including washing vehicles and putting air in tires.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues in real time and collaborate with Mission Operations dispatch team to resolve issues quickly.
- Ability to monitor onboard safety and navigational systems while maintaining constant situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols during driving.
- Physical ability to sit for 3 to 4 hours at a time for up to 8 hours per day in an enclosed vehicle, with the capacity to bend, squat, stretch, and lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
- Physical ability to perform side and up/down movement of the head, neck, back, and shoulders necessary to operate a vehicle safely.
- Physical ability to operate foot pedals and hold and grasp with hands during vehicle operation.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate comfortably through online collaboration platforms such as Slack and Google Meet.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and resourceful under pressure to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Strong collaboration and time management skills, with the ability to work independently or in small groups without direct supervision.
- Self-driven and goal-oriented, with the ability to adapt to frequent changes and evolving conditions.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.

Base pay of $24/hour for Morning and Afternoon/Evening shifts, $25.25/hour for Overnight shift
