Job Description
This role involves leading the engineering development of autonomous vehicle hardware, including design, integration, validation, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners to bring AV hardware systems from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the engineering development, design, and integration of autonomous vehicle hardware components.
- Create and manage technical specifications, targets, architecture, and drawings for AV hardware.
- Collaborate with internal teams, OEM partners, and suppliers on system feasibility, design, and data exchange.
- Support manufacturing processes to bring hardware components into production.
- Design and execute validation plans in collaboration with CAE and test teams.
- Develop prototypes, support vehicle builds, and troubleshoot issues to optimize hardware solutions.
- Drive improvements in part quality, cost efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
- Communicate technical decisions, development progress, and issues to management.
Requirements
- Own the engineering specification, targets, architecture, design, development, schedule, and release of autonomous vehicle hardware (AV HW) and integration components, including 3D CAD packages and drawings.
- Work closely with Industrial Design (ID) to generate creative ideas and conduct feasibility studies resulting in an aesthetic and functional design.
- Assist the efforts of AV HW engineering teams at OEM partners and collaborate with the PLM team on CAD and data exchange with OEM and supplier partners.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams as required to bring up production of components.
- Work closely with CAE and test teams to design and execute validation plans.
- Support the development and bring-up of bucks, mules, and prototypes, support vehicle builds, identify issues, and work to achieve the best solutions.
- Drive part quality improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency improvements.
- Communicate technical decisions, development plans, and ongoing issues to management.
- Role may require up to quarter-time travel domestically and internationally.
