Job Description

The Fleet Technician at Nuro is responsible for maintaining and improving the hardware and software systems of autonomous vehicles, ensuring their safety, reliability, and performance through technical analysis, system development, and collaboration across teams.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement hardware and software system improvements for fleet vehicles
Perform systems analysis to identify root causes of hardware and software interactions
Develop and maintain Linux-based tools, scripts, and automation frameworks for fleet monitoring and diagnostics
Contribute to architectural decisions for autonomous vehicle platforms
Act as a technical lead for fleet-related initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams
Establish and maintain technical standards, policies, and best practices
Develop playbooks and documentation to support autonomous vehicle operations and system robustness
Serve as a subject matter expert for complex fleet issues and incident investigations
Support hardware integration, testing, and validation of autonomous vehicle systems

Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or higher degree in any related field such as computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience
Proficiency in Linux, including understanding and writing code
Ability to perform hands-on hardware integration, testing, and validation to support autonomous vehicle systems and software-hardware interfaces
Ability to analyze and resolve complex hardware-software interactions in robotic vehicle systems to support design improvements and system optimization
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team-focused with a passion for continuous learning
Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business
Clean driving record
Experience in developing, maintaining, and implementing hardware and software system improvements that increase fleet reliability, safety, and performance
Experience in performing advanced systems analysis to identify root causes of complex software and hardware interactions across autonomous platforms
Experience in developing command line interface tooling, automation scripting, and Linux-based software tools, scripts, and frameworks to monitor, diagnose, and optimize fleet performance
Experience in contributing to architectural decisions for current and future autonomous vehicle platforms
Experience acting as a technical lead for fleet-related initiatives and collaborating with Software, Hardware, Safety, Operations, and Product teams
Experience evaluating trade-offs and making independent recommendations on technical approaches, tooling, and system design
Experience establishing and maintaining technical standards, policies, and best practices across fleet operations
Experience developing playbooks and designing/documenting new engineering and operating processes to improve scalability and system robustness
Experience authoring and maintaining technical documentation, design specifications, and decision records
Experience serving as a subject matter expert regarding technical escalations for complex or novel fleet issues
Experience providing guidance during systems-level incident investigations
Experience documenting the lifecycle of vehicle assets in fleet management systems
