Job Description
A temporary full-time role operating autonomous test vehicles, involving manual and autonomous driving, data collection, troubleshooting, vehicle maintenance, and public engagement to support the development and testing of self-driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate autonomous test vehicles in manual and autonomous modes under various traffic conditions
- Collect and provide detailed feedback on data from vehicle operations to engineering teams
- Troubleshoot operational issues in real-time and collaborate with dispatch to resolve them
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance tasks
- Educate the public about autonomous vehicle technologies and behaviors
- Conduct high-profile ridealongs for company leadership and stakeholders while ensuring safety and professionalism
- Monitor onboard safety and navigational systems to maintain situational awareness and safety protocols
Requirements
- Possess a current valid California driver s license and have been in possession of a US license for at least 3 years.
- Have a clean driving record and be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Be able to reliably work 5 days a week on one of the following shifts: Morning 6 00am-2 30pm PT (Tue - Sat or Sun - Thu), Afternoon/Evening 2 00pm-10 30pm PT (Tue - Sat or Sun - Thu), or Overnight 10 00pm-6 30am PT (Wed - Sun).
- Have a passion to learn about processes and autonomous vehicles.
- Have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to comfortably communicate through modern online collaboration platforms such as Slack, Google Meet, or similar.
- Be comfortable operating standard field equipment, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, which are critical for documentation, training, and real-time workflow procedures.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving skills by remaining calm and resourceful under pressure to troubleshoot operational issues.
- Have strong collaboration and time management skills and be able to work independently or in small groups for periods without direct supervision.
- Be self-driven and able to stay focused and goal-oriented while adapting to frequent changes and evolving conditions.
- Have a proven record of reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Be able to operate a vehicle in manual and autonomous mode up to 8 hours per day in diverse traffic conditions while adhering to safety and operational driving procedures.
- Be able to perform daily vehicle inspection checks before and after missions and conduct basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as washing vehicles and putting air in tires.
- Be able to operate and monitor onboard safety and navigational systems, maintaining constant situational awareness and adherence to safety protocols while driving.
- Be able to sit for 3 to 4 hours at a time for up to 8 hours per day in an enclosed vehicle, with the ability to bend, squat, stretch, and lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
- Be capable of side and up-down movement of the head, neck, back, and shoulders necessary to operate a vehicle safely.
- Be able to work in a vehicle that may brake, swerve, slow, or stop abruptly, and operate foot pedals and grasp with hands as required.
