Job Description
The Director of Operations and Maintenance at NineDot Energy oversees the efficient and reliable operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), managing technical teams, optimizing system performance, ensuring safety compliance, and coordinating with vendors and stakeholders to support the company's clean energy projects across New York.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Monitor and control BESS through control systems, technical specifications, and vendor requirements.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolve operational issues promptly with the technical field team.
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans for BESS reliability.
- Coordinate with vendors for software updates, system enhancements, and performance optimization.
- Manage real-time monitoring and control via a Network Operations Center (NOC), including developing protocols and staffing plans.
- Analyze operational data to identify performance trends, optimization opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare reports and communicate system performance insights to stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors, control system providers, and external partners.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and contractual requirements.
- Collaborate with technical teams to improve system efficiency and implement advanced control strategies.
- Develop and execute emergency response plans for critical situations and coordinate responses during emergencies.
- Manage third-party service contracts through Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Requirements
- Ten (10) years of proven operations and/or maintenance experience of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems, including at least two (2) years managing renewable energy plants, with battery energy storage preferred.
- Strong leadership and people management skills to lead and motivate operations teams.
- In-depth understanding of battery technologies, energy storage systems, power electronics, and grid integration.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including EPCs and sub-vendors.
- Proven knowledge of various battery chemistries such as lithium-ion and flow batteries and their applications.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of industry standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental regulations relevant to energy storage operations.
- Experience troubleshooting SCADA systems and site operations, and problem solving with local utilities.
- Ability to adhere to safety processes and procedures.
- Unrestricted driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to work on weekends and off shifts as required.
- Ability to work in varying climates as required.
- Ability to travel to and from job sites as assigned.
- Physical ability to walk, climb, push, pull, and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and evolving schedules.
- Excellent proficiency with productivity tools such as Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with effective multi-tasking skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Salary range of $175,000 - $195,000 plus bonus and incentive stock options
