Job Description

The Senior Project Developer will originate, develop, and manage renewable energy projects, primarily solar and energy storage, in the New York region, overseeing activities from site control to project sale, while building relationships with stakeholders and driving regional market strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop multi-megawatt renewable energy projects, including solar and energy storage, through all development stages until ready for financing and construction
  • Manage project development activities across multiple sites, including site control, utility interconnection, permitting, and system design
  • Negotiate agreements with landowners and stakeholders, and facilitate entitlement and interconnection processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders such as landowners, utilities, government agencies, and policymakers
  • Drive regional market strategy, prioritize projects, and meet or exceed annual development volume and profit targets
  • Generate project opportunities through market research, networking, and outreach activities
  • Prepare proposals, quotes, and respond to RFPs to secure project development contracts
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and engineering teams to negotiate contracts, develop financial models, and support project sale readiness
  • Maintain accurate project data in company systems and provide guidance to junior team members

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the battery energy storage industry, or a similar and/or adjacent project development context.
  • Successful track record in a complex sales or project development environment, preferably in New York battery energy storage, involving large, technical, construction, and/or financial products with long sales cycles that require relationship building, lead generation, navigation of complexity, and deal closing.
  • Ability to filter through lots of information to figure out what matters, and to prioritize truly promising opportunities from others.
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and follow in cross-functional teams, and to be a great teammate.
  • Understanding of key quantitative business concepts, including probabilistic thinking and financial metrics such as NPV and IRR.
  • Ability to spend time in person with customers and travel frequently in the assigned territory, with 20-50% travel required.
  • Experience developing solar and energy storage projects at the megawatt scale, from origination through financial close.
  • Experience negotiating agreements with landowners, starting the entitlement and interconnection processes, and moving projects through the development process until they are ready to finance and build.
  • Experience working with legal, finance, and executive teams to negotiate contract terms and close transactions.
  • Experience gathering market intelligence and expanding relationships with governments and utilities to understand the development environment.
  • Ability to generate proposals, quotes, and formal RFP responses.
  • Experience developing and executing a project development plan to meet or exceed annual volume targets, with the expectation of closing multiple projects generating at least 5 million dollars of direct profit annually.
  • Ability to coordinate or drive development activities including site control, utility interconnection, entitlement permitting, initial system design, incentive program participation, and other project preparation activities.
  • Experience supporting internal engineering and finance teams through the last pre-sale stages of development.
  • Experience working with legal, finance, and executive teams to negotiate contract terms and close transactions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate project information in company systems of record.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with local stakeholders, including landowners, local governments, utilities, and policymakers.
  • Willingness and ability to spend time in person with customers and travel frequently within the territory.
  • Passion for renewable energy, addressing the climate crisis, and accelerating the clean energy transition.
