Job Description
The Real Estate Counsel at New Leaf Energy will support and advise on legal matters related to real estate development for renewable energy projects, including drafting and negotiating agreements, reviewing title and survey documents, and ensuring project financeability across multiple states.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and revise real estate agreements including leases, easements, options, development agreements, and related documents
- Review and summarize title reports, surveys, and title curative instruments
- Advise project teams on the impact of real estate matters on project financeability
- Negotiate with buyers, lenders, and title companies to resolve real estate issues and facilitate project closings
- Oversee and supervise outside counsel as needed
- Identify and implement process improvements related to site control, due diligence, and asset sale closings
Requirements
- Law degree and strong academic record from a leading ABA-accredited law school
- At least 4 years of substantial, relevant legal experience at a top-tier law firm, sophisticated corporate legal department or combination of the two
- Extensive experience drafting and negotiating site leases, easements, and other real estate contracts
- Experience reviewing title and survey, clearing title exceptions, and obtaining final title commitments and title policies
- Experience with reviewing ALTA surveys
- Experience with the real estate-related requirements of parties that finance the development and construction of renewable energy projects
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Attention to detail with strong written and oral communication skills
- Licensed to practice law in any state
