Job Description

The Project Developer will originate and develop multi-megawatt renewable energy projects in New York, managing site development, stakeholder relationships, and project progression from inception to readiness for financing and construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop multi-megawatt renewable energy projects from site identification through pre-sale readiness
  • Negotiate landowner agreements, manage project development activities, and coordinate with internal teams to advance projects through permitting, interconnection, and policy processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including landowners, government officials, utilities, and project teams
  • Lead market intelligence gathering and develop strategies for project opportunity generation and business development
  • Prepare proposals, quotes, and respond to RFPs to secure project opportunities
  • Negotiate contracts with legal, finance, and other professionals to facilitate project closing
  • Support financial modeling, regulatory research, and negotiations related to project development

Requirements

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree (required); MBA or other advanced degree (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of the solar industry, or a similar and/or adjacent project development context.
  • Successful track record in a complex sales or project development environment, preferably in solar and/or energy storage, involving large, technical, construction, and/or financial products with long sales cycles that require relationship building, lead generation, navigation of complexity, and deal closing.
  • Ability to filter through lots of information to identify what matters and to prioritize truly promising opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to both lead and follow in cross-functional teams, and to be a great teammate.
  • Understanding of key quantitative business concepts, including probabilistic thinking and financial metrics such as NPV and IRR.
  • Ability to spend time in person with customers and travel frequently in the assigned territory, with a travel requirement of 20-50%.
  • Experience in developing solar and energy storage projects at the megawatt scale, from origination through financial close.
  • Experience in negotiating agreements with landowners, managing projects and project teams through the entitlement and interconnection processes, and preparing projects for sale.
  • Ability to develop and execute a project development plan to meet or exceed annual volume targets, with the expectation of closing multiple projects generating at least 5 million dollars of direct profit each year.
  • Experience in gathering market intelligence and expanding relationships with governments and utilities to understand the development environment and refine strategies.
  • Experience in leading opportunity generation activities such as account profiling, cold calls, business networking, and market penetration strategies.
  • Experience in generating proposals, quotes, and formal RFP responses.
  • Ability to work with legal, finance, and executive teams to negotiate contract terms and close transactions.
  • Experience in developing financial models and assisting with tax, financing, and regulatory-related research and negotiations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate information about projects in the company's systems of record.
