Job Description

Job Location: 1111 Broadway, STE 1505, Oakland, CA 94607 (Hybrid in-office / remote position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain energy storage equipment standards for the design engineering team, including noise impact assessments and duration-based system performance (2-hour vs. 4-hour applications);
  • Provide value engineering support and technical advisory services to design engineering, project developers, and finance teams throughout the lifecycle of ESS projects (Energy Storage System projects);
  • Lead the technical evaluation of emerging ESS technologies (such as sodium-ion chemistries) and cost-reduction opportunities, ensuring alignment with U.S. market requirements and engineering standards;
  • Resolve complex technical and regulatory challenges during development (including noise mitigation, local fire code compliance, and permitting requirements) while maintaining an internal knowledge repository for stakeholder use;
  • Training new engineers on energy storage systems and designs; Learning from internal customers in the office and in the field and managing closed feedback loops to continuously improve our standard product design and deliverables; Participating in interdisciplinary Kaizen events to improve processes.
  • Translate technical specifications from OEMs into project-specific requirements for markets such as NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO, ensuring compliance with the most thorough safety standards such as UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, and UL1973 for Energy Storage Systems (ESS);
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and analytical tools that empower internal stakeholders to efficiently support project development. This includes modeling Round-Trip Efficiency (RTE) degradation over project lifecycles, configuring DC collection blocks, and performing detailed financial analysis for multiple system configurations;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to maintain accurate, competitive cost models. This encompasses evaluating energy density versus physical footprint tradeoffs, transformer and auxiliary load sizing, and OEM warranty term optimization;
  • Standardize engineering deliverables by developing repeatable one-line diagrams with clearly defined AC/DC boundaries and corresponding safety narratives, enabling greater execution efficiency across development teams;
  • Required Minimum Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (any) or related field of study, and 3 years in the job offered or related occupation in which the required experience was gained.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in the commercial and utility-scale energy storage market, with direct project experience in NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO regulatory frameworks;
  • Proficiency with commercially available energy storage technologies, including lithium-ion (LFP-based containerized systems), and familiarity with emerging alternatives such as sodium-ion;
  • Practical knowledge of utility interconnection requirements, transformer sizing practices, and balance-of-plant design for ESS deployment;
  • Proven application of U.S. electrical codes and standards, including UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, NFPA 855, IEEE interconnection standards, and the National Electrical Code;
  • Skilled in the preparation of technical deliverables, such as system one-line diagrams and Round-Trip Efficiency/degradation models;
  • Direct involvement in cross-team collaboration with OEMs and EPC partners to assess equipment specifications, cost trade-offs, and warranty compliance;
  • To Apply: mail resumes to HR, Ref Job Title: Energy Storage Technical Lead, 55 Technology Drive, Suite 102, Lowell, MA 01851
