The Director of Market Development at New Leaf Energy is responsible for expanding market strategies, developing business models, securing long-term energy contracts, analyzing market designs, and advocating for favorable policies to support utility-scale solar and storage projects in various regional markets.
Key Responsibilities
Develop market strategies and analyze data to identify high-value geographies and optimize existing solar and storage portfolios
Create and implement innovative business models and strategic partnerships to diversify market offerings
Identify and secure long-term revenue contracts such as PPAs and VPPAs through direct relationships with energy buyers
Monitor and interpret utility filings, legislative initiatives, and market rule changes to inform development and technical teams
Analyze complex market designs and interconnection processes to mitigate risks and capitalize on first-mover opportunities
Represent the company in regional trade groups and lead policy initiatives to advocate for favorable regulatory outcomes
Requirements
A minimum of eight years of experience in business development and or market strategy focused on the electricity industry.
Advanced understanding of development challenges and strategies for de-risking utility-scale projects, including familiarity with the function of the transmission system and project interconnection processes, wholesale markets, renewable project finance, discounted cash flow models, financial valuations of energy projects, and related areas.
Demonstrated ability to build and leverage a network of industry partners, trade organizations, and utilities to create high-value, structured partnerships.
Experience navigating and advocating for state and or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) jurisdictional wholesale electricity market tariffs, structures, and processes.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex issues in preparing briefs and other documents.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Independent, self-driven, and innovative individual with a clear focus on results and the ability to adapt to changing environments and navigate complex issues.
Self-motivated and able to function effectively with minimal supervision.
Able to multi-task and effectively manage multiple assignments occasionally under time constraints.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
