Job Description
A Lead Software Engineer responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on developing and supporting energy management solutions within the UK electricity and gas markets, utilizing technologies such as Python, Django, React, and AWS to deliver innovative, customer-centric energy platform products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 5-7 engineers focused on the UK electricity and gas market, particularly the MHHS project.
- Provide technical leadership and support for UK-based clients and market operations.
- Develop and maintain software primarily using Python, Django, GraphQL, React, Next.js, Typescript, and related technologies.
- Oversee the deployment and continuous integration processes utilizing AWS, CircleCI, Terraform, and related tools.
- Ensure operational excellence, high-quality customer experience, and rapid innovation within the team.
Requirements
- Experience in leading a team of five to seven engineers, with management responsibilities for the team.
- Strong technical leadership skills in software engineering, including guiding team development and ensuring best practices.
- Proficiency in supporting UK-based clients and working within the UK energy market, specifically on projects related to electricity and gas industry regulations and systems.
- Experience working on large-scale industry projects such as the MHHS project, which is one of the largest changes to the electricity industry since the late 1990s.
- Hands-on experience with server-side development primarily using Python, with familiarity in Django and GraphQL (Graphene).
- Experience with client-side development using React, Next.js, Typescript, htmx, and SASS.
- Experience in mobile app development using native code or React Native.
- Proficiency with AWS services and experience implementing continuous deployment pipelines, including Django, ELB health checks, and related AWS tools.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment using tools such as Notion, Asana, Github, CircleCI, Terraform Enterprise, Datadog, Sentry, and Cloudwatch.
- Experience supporting and maintaining software systems in a production environment, including monitoring and performance measurement.
- Educational background relevant to software engineering or a related field (implied by the role, though specific degree requirements are not explicitly stated).
- Ability to work on support of UK-based clients and the UK energy market, with a focus on operational support and client engagement.
