Job Description
The Associate of Portfolio Management supports the management and analysis of a growing portfolio of sustainable infrastructure investments, including renewable natural gas, transportation, and ecological projects, while assisting in due diligence and investment underwriting to optimize portfolio performance and returns.
Responsibilities
- •Manage and analyze the performance of investments in the operating portfolio, including production, revenue, and expenses.
- •Develop and run financial models and sensitivity analyses to assess returns and risks.
- •Collaborate with project operators, portfolio management, and investment teams to achieve portfolio objectives.
- •Support governance activities and engagement with project sponsors and operators.
- •Prepare reports and briefing materials on asset performance and improvement strategies.
- •Conduct fundamental assessments of commodity markets, regulatory impacts, and policy opportunities affecting portfolio returns.
- •Assist in the syndication of portfolio investments, including preparing investor materials and coordinating due diligence.
- •Identify opportunities to enhance project economics, reduce risks, and improve investment returns.
- •Support due diligence for new debt and equity investments, including risk assessment and project agreement review.
- •Collaborate with engineers on technological reviews and incorporate portfolio insights into investment underwriting.
Requirements
- •Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution or Master's degree.
- •2-5 years of experience in project finance, investment banking, or private equity.
- •Mastery of MS Excel financial modeling and data mining skills, with demonstrable experience working with complex models.
- •Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to think outside the box and ask good questions.
- •Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- •Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
- •Dependable and reliable, takes initiative, can work independently, and be a supportive team member.
- •Experience analyzing the performance of investments in operating portfolios, including aspects of production, revenue, and operating expenses.
- •Ability to run financial models, sensitivity analysis, and review underlying project operating proformas to assess returns and risks.
- •Experience working closely and collaboratively with project operators, portfolio management, and investment teams to achieve objectives.
- •Ability to support governance activities and engagement with project operators or sponsors related to existing portfolio.
- •Experience preparing briefing decks and reporting materials for management, synthesizing asset performance and improvement avenues.
- •Ability to support fundamental assessment of commodity markets, supply and demand balances, regulatory programs, policy dependencies, and opportunities impacting portfolio returns.
- •Experience supporting efforts related to the syndication of portfolio investments, including preparation of investor-facing materials, coordination of due diligence responses, and transaction execution.
- •Ability to proactively identify levers to enhance project economics, reduce operating risk, and improve investment returns.
- •Work closely with the Investment Team to complement due diligence for debt and equity investments and acquisition activity.
- •Assessment of potential risks from project sponsors, construction development, operations, technology, and market conditions.
- •Diligence of terms of the underlying project agreements.
- •Collaboration with in-house and independent engineers on technological review.
- •Applying learnings from broader portfolio in underwriting new investments, particularly key project operating assumptions such as production, operating expenses, and merchant prices.
