Job Description

Gatik is seeking a Senior Staff Vehicle Harness Engineer to design, develop, and oversee power and signal distribution systems for autonomous vehicles, from concept through production, ensuring integration and functionality within the vehicle's electrical architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and create engineering specifications, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for vehicle harnesses.
  • Manage the device transmittal (DT) process for harness components.
  • Provide technical expertise on power, signal, and data bus distribution systems for autonomous vehicles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop system specifications and address gaps.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to build prototypes and production vehicles.
  • Develop and refine tools and methods for harness system development.
  • Mentor junior engineers on power and signal distribution principles and best practices.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline, with MS preferred
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with vehicle harnesses
  • Experience in delivering a system to production, from inception to production
  • Experience in the Automotive, Truck Transportation, and Autonomous Vehicle (AV) industry
  • Ability to create engineering specifications including requirements, schematics, CAD models, and drawings for vehicle harnesses
  • Ability to size and select appropriate cables, connectors, and fuses
  • Ability to design mechanical components supporting the completion of the deliverables, such as brackets, housings, or pass-throughs
  • Proficiency with CAD and/or drawing software, with SolidWorks preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Strong computer skills with programming and scripting experience (preferred)
  • Experience with advanced vehicle communication standards and requirements such as GMSL, Automotive Ethernet, CAN, CAN-FD, and low voltage high power applications
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members to complete system specifications and fill gaps as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with suppliers and vendors to build prototypes and production vehicles
  • Ability to develop and refine tools and methods used by the team
  • Physical ability to work hands-on with hand-tools and rapid prototyping fabrication
  • Independence and good communication skills to succeed in the role
