Job Description
The Chase Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating a passenger vehicle to follow autonomous trucks during testing and deployment, supporting the autonomous vehicle team by monitoring traffic, maintaining safety protocols, and collecting data to improve autonomous driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually drive a chase passenger vehicle following an autonomous truck
- Maintain a safe following distance and protective buffer behind the autonomous vehicle
- Monitor traffic conditions, road hazards, and autonomous vehicle status
- Support disengagements, system issues, and emergency response procedures
- Log and report observations, incidents, or environmental hazards
- Coordinate with the team to ensure smooth testing operations
- Comply with traffic laws, AV testing, and safety protocols
- Learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures and safety standards
Requirements
- Clean driving record and successful background and drug screenings
- Ability to manually drive a chase passenger vehicle that is following a Gatik autonomous truck
- Maintain a safe following distance and protective buffer behind the autonomous vehicle (AV)
- Monitor traffic conditions, road hazards, and AV status, and communicate updates
- Support disengagements, system issues, and emergency response procedures
- Log and report observations, incidents, or environmental hazards
- Coordinate with the team to ensure smooth testing operations
- Comply with traffic laws and all AV testing and safety protocols
- Learn and adhere to company standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with safe operations standards
- Adherence to all local, state, and federal AV testing regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of AV operations and technology
- Ability to adapt to varied shift schedules, including evenings, weekdays, and weekends
- Availability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week, with shifts including nighttime and some daytime hours
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, while also being able to work independently
- Strong focus on safety, initiative, and proactivity
Benefits & Perks
- Hourly pay of $22 per hour
