Job Description

This internship involves designing, building, and testing reactor prototypes and subsystems to support the scale-up of hydrogen generation technology for industrial applications, with a focus on process development, data analysis, and collaboration with partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test reactor prototypes for scale-up and pilot projects
  • Develop and validate test platforms for subsystem iteration
  • Analyze reactor test data to optimize operating conditions
  • Create process flow diagrams, models, and simulations of units
  • Produce and maintain P&ID and system documentation
  • Specify, select, and modify commercial off-the-shelf components for subsystems
  • Participate in and lead design reviews of chemical process subsystems
  • Operate and maintain separation and other subsystems of the pilot reactor
  • Develop safety protocols and systems for prototype and production units
  • Translate R&D work into functional requirements and specifications

Requirements

  • Pursuing education in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, or related fields
  • Deeply motivated by the climate crisis and its downstream impacts
  • Track record of strong academic and/or project-based performance
  • Experience in chemical reactor design, assembly, and validation
  • Familiarity with process control systems, PID controllers, and PLC controllers
  • Experience with chemical separation and purification processes
  • Experience with solid-liquid separation and filtration
  • Experience sourcing and integrating pumps, valves, and other essential equipment for fluid control and transport within the process system
  • Ability to create process flow diagrams and chemical system simulation models
  • Experience with hydrogen handling and safety equipment
  • Ability to operate and maintain the separations and other subsystems of the pilot reactor
  • Ability to develop safety systems and protocols for the prototype and production systems
  • Ability to develop and maintain SOP documentation for prototype and production systems
  • Experience translating R&D work into prototype functional requirements and specifications
  • Experience translating partnership specifications into design requirements
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD to generate P&ID and other system documentation
