Job Description
About Fluence: Fluence Energy, Inc.
Key Responsibilities
Lead electrical NPI activities from concept through production launch, ensuring electrical manufacturing readiness and successful factory ramp-up across internal manufacturing sites and Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
Review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, BOMs, and component specifications for manufacturing feasibility, completeness, and production readiness.
Drive electrical Design for Excellence (DFX), including DFM, DFA, Design for Automation, Design for Cost, and serviceability, with focus on assembly access, cable routing, bend radius, connector selection, termination, grounding, insulation, and electrical interfaces.
Conduct virtual build reviews using 3D models and electrical drawings to identify routing conflicts, clearance issues, assembly sequence constraints, and potential manufacturing risks before physical builds.
Lead and support prototype, pilot, validation, qualification, and production builds at contract manufacturers and manufacturing sites; capture build issues and drive timely closure with design and manufacturing teams.
Assess the manufacturability of HV/LV distribution systems, busbars, cable harnesses, protection devices, control panels, connectors, grounding systems, and electrical interfaces.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering to develop assembly instructions, tooling and fixture requirements, torque specifications, crimping and termination requirements, inspection checkpoints, and electrical workmanship criteria.
Contribute to PFMEA and control plan activities, ensuring electrical design risks, manufacturing risks, and lessons learned are incorporated into robust production processes.
Coordinate engineering changes, BOM updates, drawing revisions, and configuration control to ensure the correct design revision is implemented during prototype, pilot, and production builds.
Support supplier and Contract Manufacturer readiness reviews, including process capability, workmanship, tooling, inspection methods, capacity, and technical issue resolution.
Track electrical NPI risks, open issues, actions, dependencies, and readiness milestones; communicate progress and escalate critical technical, quality, cost, and schedule blockers.
Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, and external manufacturing partners to ensure on-time NPI execution and successful production ramp-up.
Drive continuous improvement and standardization of electrical NPI processes, including DFX guidelines, virtual build practices, manufacturing lessons learned, and electrical DFX rulebook development.
Travel internationally to suppliers, Contract Manufacturers, and manufacturing sites to support prototype builds, factory launches, and production ramp-up activities.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
6–10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, or a related function.
Proven experience with prototype builds, pilot production, manufacturing readiness, production launches, and Contract Manufacturer support.
Strong understanding of HV/LV electrical systems, cable and wire harnesses, busbars, grounding and bonding, insulation, creepage/clearance, connectors, electrical terminations, and protection devices.
Strong knowledge of DFX/DFM/DFA, electrical manufacturing process development, PFMEA, root-cause analysis, engineering change management, BOM control, and configuration management.
Experience reviewing electrical CAD drawings and 3D assemblies using tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, Creo, or equivalent.
Experience with virtual builds, digital mock-up reviews, 3D model-based DFX, and design-to-manufacturing workflows.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PLM, ERP systems, and project management tools.
Excellent communication, analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, global environment.
Willingness to travel internationally to suppliers, Contract Manufacturers, and manufacturing sites.
Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), battery packs/modules, power electronics, inverters/PCS, EV powertrains, or industrial electrical systems.
Understanding of BESS interfaces with BMS, PCS, thermal management, protection, and auxiliary systems.
Experience supporting HV battery systems and associated electrical safety and manufacturing requirements.
