The Senior Product Engineer Web Services at Esri is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving backend web services that support geospatial workflows within the ArcGIS platform, ensuring reliability, scalability, and customer value through technical expertise and product management.
Key Responsibilities
Own and guide the evolution, quality, and customer impact of one or more ArcGIS web services.
Serve as the primary product decision maker for assigned services, balancing customer needs and platform health.
Define and act on service goals, success metrics, and quality standards using telemetry and customer feedback.
Maintain and prioritize a product backlog, making tradeoffs across features, defects, and technical debt.
Manage service contracts, API behavior, versioning, and backward compatibility within the ecosystem.
Champion operational excellence by advocating for reliability, performance, scalability, and observability.
Influence product direction through cross-team collaboration, mentorship, and shared standards.
Validate and triage enhancement and defect requests in collaboration with support services.
Requirements
At least 5 years of experience in a product-focused role such as Product Engineer, Technical Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar.
Deep experience working in Agile software development environments.
Strong experience working with web services and APIs, including RESTful services, service contracts, versioning, and backward compatibility.
Experience working with ArcGIS applications and technologies such as ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS Map Viewer, ArcGIS REST APIs, ArcGIS API for Python, and ArcGIS Maps SDKs.
Working knowledge of cloud-native service fundamentals, including availability, performance, monitoring, and operational concerns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Proven ability to operate with high autonomy while collaborating effectively across teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Information Science, or another related field.
