At Esri, we develop core web GIS technologies used by the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and Esri’s web GIS applications.
Key Responsibilities
Implement, test, document, and maintain capabilities in the Web GIS SDK’s core libraries and web component packages
Develop software using JavaScript, TypeScript, browser APIs, and modern web development practices
Build reusable web components and supporting utilities by following established architectural and API conventions
Participate in the design and implementation of clear, consistent, and well-documented APIs
Investigate and resolve software defects and development issues of limited or moderate complexity
Write automated tests and use established development practices to improve software quality and maintainability
Contribute to developer documentation, code examples, demonstrations, and interactive learning resources
Help ensure software meets established performance, accessibility, internationalization, and localization requirements
Work with shared packages, package-management tools, and monorepo development workflows
Contribute to build, test, continuous integration, and release workflows
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and team planning
Collaborate with teammates, communicate progress and technical challenges, and seek guidance when needed
Requirements
2+ years demonstrated experience developing web applications, libraries, reusable components, or shared packages using JavaScript and TypeScript
Ability to apply software engineering principles such as modular design, abstraction, maintainability, and automated testing
Familiarity with standards-based web components or component-based development using a modern web framework
Experience developing, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting software for the modern web platform using HTML, CSS, browser APIs, and browser development tools
Familiarity with source control, package management, and software build tools
Ability to follow established engineering practices and apply feedback from code and design reviews
Ability to analyze problems, consider relevant factors, and implement solutions with appropriate guidance
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, GIS, mathematics, or a related field
Experience developing reusable libraries, SDKs, public APIs, or component packages
Familiarity with API compatibility, versioning, and deprecation concepts
Experience with web GIS technologies, mapping libraries, spatial data formats, or geospatial services
Experience with Astro, Storybook, or comparable documentation and component-development tools
Familiarity with monorepos and shared-package development
Experience with test automation, continuous integration, build tooling, or software release workflows
Familiarity with web accessibility, internationalization, or localization practices
Interest in developer tools, technical documentation, and developer experience
