Job Description
A cartographic data visualization specialist responsible for creating engaging maps and interactive geographic experiences using GIS technology, collaborating with cross-functional teams to tell compelling stories about the planet through innovative map design and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to produce static, animated, and interactive maps for marketing and web platforms.
- Contribute to mapmaking workflows and production systems to ensure high-quality cartography at scale.
- Define and develop cartographic principles and technical documentation for map design standards.
- Design, prototype, and build engaging interactive web experiences showcasing geographic data and Esri software.
- Conduct usability studies and analyze user feedback to improve interactive map experiences.
- Innovate and explore new techniques to demonstrate the capabilities of ArcGIS and connect with diverse audiences.
- Advocate for geographic thinking by sharing trends, mentoring colleagues, and promoting the value of cartography.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a field relevant to geographic thinking and cartographic production.
- A portfolio that includes recent work demonstrating evidence-driven problem-solving on real-world projects, skills in developing evidence-based insights, and design solutions through a mix of low- and high-fidelity deliverables, with a link to an online portfolio or PDF samples.
- Foundational comprehension and demonstrated experience in geographic information system (GIS) technology.
- Outstanding written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- A clear passion for geographic storytelling with the ability to make complex ideas understandable to non-cartography audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in geography, cartography, computer science, data visualization, or related fields such as urban planning, architecture, or information design.
