Job Description
The Vessel Operator supports port operations by managing vessel docking, loading, and safety procedures, while also handling port receiving, quality control, housekeeping, and general operational tasks in a renewable energy company focused on sustainable wood bioenergy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely perform docking, undocking, and mooring processes for vessels
- Handle lines during docking and undocking operations
- Operate control room systems to ensure correct vessel loading and manage equipment like gate control and load rate
- Operate heavy equipment on vessels, including cranes and ship loaders
- Complete man overboard training and assist with vessel shifting requirements
- Load barges and set up systems for limestone transfer
- Receive and record pellet deliveries at port for accurate billing
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of scale areas and loads
- Communicate professionally with suppliers
- Operate shuttle wagons as directed
- Collect samples, test finished goods, and maintain QA/QC records
- Analyze equipment performance and make adjustments to optimize throughput and quality
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area and operate mobile dust collection equipment
- Follow safety procedures, complete required safety certifications, and escalate issues promptly
- Perform maintenance work requests and serve as a backup resource as needed
Requirements
- High school diploma or able to complete GED requirements with six months of hire
- Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions
- Proficient in mathematics and measurement
- Team player demonstrated with past work experience or activities
- Ability to work multiple shift schedules to support 24x7 operations
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
- Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
- Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
