Job Description
The Quality Supervisor oversees plant quality operations, manages laboratory testing and quality control processes, leads employee training and corrective actions, and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing environment focused on sustainable wood bioenergy products.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and improve plant operations to meet customer quality specifications
- Manage laboratory activities including sampling, testing, and maintaining test equipment
- Develop, audit, and maintain quality control tools, test procedures, and ensure accurate and timely test results
- Track and interpret finished goods quality metrics, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Develop best practices for handling, preserving, and storing pellets to ensure quality and safety
- Manage equipment operation and maintenance related to product quality preservation
- Conduct special-project tests to investigate quality issues and optimize operations
- Lead and supervise hourly employees, including conducting pre-shift meetings, observations, and corrective actions
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) via cause maps to address downtime and quality gaps
- Supervise receiving personnel as a backup to the terminal manager
Requirements
- At least 4 years experience in Quality, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent education.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time and be able to respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Desire to learn quickly and be challenged to take on higher levels of responsibility.
- High degree of professionalism and integrity, holding self and other accountable.
- Ability to lead hourly team members and flexibility to work odd hours when required to support plant.
- Must be able to work in environments that reach temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
- Able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Majority of time spent in lab setting, with time in the field to collect samples and troubleshoot results.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces up to 100 ft on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to push, pull, and lift items up to 50 lbs.
- Able to frequently walk or stand, and occasionally bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift items above shoulders.
- Must use required provided PPE such as safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe boots, and hearing protection.
