Job Description

A Pellet Mill Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining pellet production equipment, ensuring product quality, troubleshooting malfunctions, and adhering to safety and environmental standards in a sustainable wood bioenergy production facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain pellet mills to ensure optimal feed rates and pellet quality
  • Adjust machine components such as rolls and dies to regulate speed, pressure, and temperature
  • Monitor equipment performance and detect malfunctions using gauges and indicator lights
  • Perform inspections and maintenance on equipment to keep it in good condition
  • Conduct quality control testing, including ash tests and monitoring pellet quality
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs
  • Ensure a clean work environment and perform housekeeping tasks
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain production standards
  • Document inspections, maintenance, and operational data accurately
  • Escalate operational issues promptly for resolution

Requirements

  • Operate and maintain several pellet mills, ensuring optimal feed rates, adjusting rolls dies, and monitoring pellet quality to meet company standards.
  • Assist in conducting quality control (QC) testing, perform ash tests, and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Analyze equipment performance and make necessary tooling and equipment changes to produce desired throughput and quality results.
  • Perform and document required inspections of equipment and maintain equipment in good condition.
  • Review work order specifications or instructions to determine materials, ingredients, procedures, extracting, forming, pressing, and compacting materials to produce pellets.
  • Adjust machine components to regulate speed, pressure, and temperatures of the machine, as well as the amount, dimensions, and flow of materials and ingredients.
  • Monitor machine operations and observe indicator lights and gauges, such as thermometers, voltage meters, and timers, to detect malfunctions.
  • Perform coordinate maintenance on equipment as per job instructions and enter maintenance work requests as applicable.
  • Perform coordinate housekeeping to required standards.
  • Maintain consistent production quality to the required standard.
  • Follow all workplace and job safety procedures.
  • Complete accurate reporting as required and communicate operational information as needed.
  • Escalate issues promptly for proper resolution.
