Job Description
The role involves leading environmental health and safety (EHS) programs at a renewable energy plant, including hazard mitigation, safety training, compliance audits, incident investigations, and promoting safe work practices to achieve zero incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify workplace hazards and collaborate with plant staff to mitigate them
- Work with Plant Manager and team leaders to implement and improve EH S programs
- Provide safety training to employees, contractors, and vendors
- Lead safety team Safety Committee meetings
- Perform EH S compliance audits and assessments of facility and contractor activities
- Communicate safety plans effectively with contractor teams and document findings
- Investigate health and safety incidents, including root cause analysis
- Implement safe work practices to achieve zero incidents and accidents
- Ensure compliance of work practices with regulatory agencies and company standards
- Provide subject matter expertise in technical safety areas such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC, NIOSH, ANSI, and ASTM
Requirements
- Identify workplace hazards and work with plant staff to mitigate and abate these hazards.
- Work closely with Plant Manager to understand company needs and mission.
- Work closely with Plant Manager, supervisors, and team leaders to implement and continuously improve EH S programs.
- Provide safety training to all employees, contractors, and vendors as required.
- Lead safety team Safety Committee meetings.
- Perform EH S compliance audits and assessments of facility and contractor work activities.
- Effectively communicate with contractor teams to create a documented safe work plan.
- Provide prompt documentation of assessment findings, observations, and recommendations.
- Conduct investigations of Health Safety incidents, including root cause analysis.
- Implement safe work practices and behaviors to achieve ZERO incidents and accidents TIR.
- Ensure employees, contractors, and vendors' work practices are in regulatory compliance with applicable regulatory agencies, as well as with company standards and policies.
- Provide subject matter expertise in technical areas including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NEC, NIOSH, ANSI, and ASTM.
- Possess previous certification in the following regulatory topics: Combustible Dust Accident Prevention, First Aid CPR AED and Bloodborne Pathogens, Confined Space, Lockout Electrical Safety, Emergency Response, Fire Prevention, Hazard Communication, Material Handling, Hearing Conservation, OSHA Recordkeeping, Personal Protective Equipment, Power Tool Use and Guarding, Respiratory Protection, Crane Hoist Rigging Safety, Welding Hot Work, Incident Investigation, Working from Heights, Working and Walking Surfaces.
- Be able to occasionally work in outdoor environments and in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Willing and able to work in hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environments.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Travel as required for the position.
