Job Description

The Control Room Operator monitors and manages plant systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a renewable wood bioenergy facility, responding to alarms, adjusting processes, and maintaining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant systems and respond to alarms to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Operate plant functions from the control room, including managing feed systems, furnace, dryer, and pellet presses.
  • Check indicator screens, signal lights, production rates, and system statuses to maintain continuous operation.
  • Adjust production line processes based on monitored data and signals.
  • Maintain equipment temperature, safety standards, and working schedules.
  • Assess and resolve equipment malfunctions and operational issues using technical skills.
  • Communicate with team members and respond to alarms and radio commands.
  • Operate computers and HMI touch screens to monitor and correct operational parameters.
  • Follow safety instructions, safety rules, and maintenance procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and written procedures.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • Must possess basic computer math skills.
  • Able to learn how to operate HMI touch screens.
  • Strong aptitude in math ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure, performance and meter calculations.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in wood products, furnace dryer operations, or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
  • Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to work shift assignments up to 12 hours that include weekends, nights or rotating shifts.
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve hours a day.
  • Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
  • Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be comfortable climbing ladders, conveyors, working at heights and on steel grating.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
