Job Description
The Control Room Operator monitors and manages plant systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a renewable wood bioenergy facility, responding to alarms, adjusting processes, and maintaining safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor plant systems and equipment continuously from the control room.
- Respond to alarms by taking corrective actions to maintain safe and efficient plant operation.
- Manage and control plant processes such as chip feed, fuel feed, furnace, dryer, and pellet presses.
- Adjust production line parameters based on system signals and indicators.
- Operate and troubleshoot control room equipment, including computers and HMI touch screens.
- Maintain safety standards and equipment temperatures, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Assess and resolve operational issues and malfunctions using technical skills.
- Communicate effectively with team members and respond to operational calls and alarms.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and written procedures.
- Ability to use basic hand tools.
- Must possess basic computer math skills.
- Able to learn how to operate HMI touch screens.
- Strong aptitude in math ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure, performance and meter calculations.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in wood products, furnace dryer operations, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
- Ability to work shift assignments up to 12 hours that include weekends, nights or rotating shifts.
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve hours a day.
- Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
- Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Be comfortable climbing ladders, conveyors, working at heights and on steel grating.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
