Job Description
The Assistant Shift Supervisor supports the shift supervisor in managing daily operations at a wood pellet manufacturing facility, ensuring safety, production goals, and quality standards are met while supervising team activities and maintaining equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the shift supervisor and team in daily operations
- Ensure shift production goals are met
- Train new hires and fill in for absent personnel
- Back up team leader in pellet mill and hammermill operations
- Monitor and communicate testing results to ensure specifications are met
- Maintain 5S procedures and cleanliness standards
- Coordinate housekeeping and safety audits
- Escalate operational issues promptly
Requirements
- Must demonstrate a mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to develop and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job descriptions.
- Proficient in mathematics and measurements.
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Must be available to work any shift any day; required overtime is frequent.
- Must be able to work in environments that reach temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
- Able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
- Able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces on an occasional basis up to 100 ft.
- Must be able to push, pull and lift items up to 50 lbs.
- Able to frequently walk or stand, and occasionally bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift items above shoulders.
- Must use required provided PPE such as safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe boots, and hearing protection.
