Job Description

The role involves leading technical and strategic projects to support utilities and regulators in modernizing and decarbonizing the electrical grid, with a focus on distribution planning, grid modernization, and integration of distributed energy resources, while also engaging in business development and stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical and strategic engagements to support utilities and regulators in transitioning to a flexible, decarbonized, and distributed grid.
  • Develop and grow distribution planning, grid modernization strategies, and DER program evaluation including flexible load integration.
  • Refine analytical frameworks, implement advanced modeling tools, and align planning practices with regulatory expectations.
  • Support utility distribution planning teams by providing technical expertise and developing investment prioritization frameworks.
  • Contribute to business development, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships in power systems planning and engineering.
  • Assist utilities in prioritizing distribution capital investments to optimize reliability, resiliency, affordability, and DER adoption.
  • Develop transparent modeling and investment frameworks to justify utility investments and secure regulatory approval.

Requirements

  • Experience in grid modernization, distributed system planning, and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration, with a focus on leading multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-impact advisory services at the intersection of engineering, policy, and operations.
  • Ability to develop and grow work in distribution planning, grid modernization strategy, distribution systems planning and integration, and DER program evaluation including flexible load integration.
  • Experience supporting utility distribution planning teams by refining analytical frameworks, implementing advanced modeling tools, and aligning planning practices with emerging regulatory expectations.
  • Proven ability to develop trusted client relationships and lead technical and strategic engagements that help utilities and regulators transition to a more flexible, decarbonized, and distributed grid.
  • Experience in developing and applying rigorous, transparent modeling and investment prioritization frameworks that help utilities direct capital investments to deliver the greatest system and customer value, while articulating tradeoffs among cost, performance, and risk.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to business development, thought leadership, and strategic partnerships in power systems planning and engineering.
  • Ability to support strategic work with utilities to prioritize distribution capital investments across objectives including reliability, resiliency, affordability, electrification, and DER adoption.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to secure regulatory approval for utility distribution investments through analytical rigor and stakeholder confidence building.
  • Must be able to work for extended hours in front of a computer screen and conduct meetings on the telephone and virtually.
  • Educational background or equivalent experience in engineering, energy policy, or related fields.
  • Availability to work full-time with a flexible hybrid work schedule, including working from an office at least 2-3 days per week and traveling to local client sites as needed.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid and flexible work environment that adapts to project needs and safety requirements.
