Job Description
The Senior Scientist, Electrolyte Development at e-Zinc is responsible for leading the development, characterization, and optimization of advanced electrolytes for energy storage batteries, collaborating across teams to scale formulations from laboratory to production, and contributing to the company's innovative clean energy technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own the development and characterization of electrolytes for e-Zinc's technology.
- Identify and analyze mechanisms of electrolyte formulation and operation within batteries.
- Develop simulations to understand battery dynamics and predict performance.
- Plan and execute experimental testing of electrolytes, including chemical, electrochemical, and physical characterization.
- Collaborate with external partners to scale formulations from lab to production.
- Analyze test data, interpret results, and communicate findings through reports and presentations.
- Support cross-functional teams in integrating electrolyte technology into products.
- Contribute to intellectual property development through patent applications and trade secrets.
- Mentor and foster a high-performing team environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or related field plus 7 years of industrial work experience in relevant fields.
- Proven experience developing commercially viable battery electrolytes such as zinc or lithium battery electrolytes.
- Expert-level understanding and experience in electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in simulation software COMSOL.
- In-depth knowledge of characterization methods for electrolytes and electrodes for electrochemical energy storage devices.
- Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret complex chemical and electrochemical data.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Compensation/salary range: CAD 105,000-125,000 annually
