Job Description
The Zinc-Air Battery Test Technician will perform electrochemical testing and maintenance of zinc-air batteries, troubleshoot testing setups, and collaborate with engineers to improve battery performance in a fast-paced, innovative energy storage company.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrochemical testing on zinc-air batteries, including setup, cycling, measurement, and cleanup.
- Operate and maintain battery test equipment and DAQ instrumentation.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with batteries and test setups, documenting incidents accurately.
- Maintain detailed records of testing processes, results, and observations.
- Collaborate with engineers to refine testing methodologies and improve battery performance.
- Contribute to safety, efficiency, and process improvements in the testing lab.
Requirements
- Perform electrochemical testing on zinc-air batteries, including setting up tests, cycling the batteries, observing and reporting test incidents, taking interval and post-test measurements, and cleaning up the test setup.
- Set up, operate, and maintain battery test equipment and Data Acquisition (DAQ) instrumentation.
- Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing battery and test setup issues by accurately and objectively documenting and reporting test incidents.
- Maintain detailed records of testing processes, results, and observations.
- Work closely with engineers to refine testing methodologies and improve battery performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the lab's safety, operating efficiency, effectiveness, and other processes and procedures.
- Possess education in Engineering, Applied Science, Technologist, or Technician, or a related technical field in electrical, mechanical, chemical, or materials engineering (preferred).
- Have at least 5 years of experience in an industrial setting.
- Have prior hands-on experience executing electrochemical and/or electromechanical testing.
- Have experience with Digital Multimeters (DMM), oscilloscopes, titration, handheld tools, and portable power tools.
- It would be an asset to have experience working with thermocouples, power supplies, and modular Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Have prior experience working in a test lab handling high-volume, high-reliability hardware products, such as automotive tier-1 suppliers and medical equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
- Have prior experience working in a test lab governed by safety protocols related to battery testing, chemical handling, high current, high voltage products, and equipment.
- Work must be performed while wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Have a basic understanding of materials science, chemistry, and mechanical and electrical engineering concepts.
- Proficiency in using computer software for data collection and analysis, such as Excel, LabVIEW, Python, R, or similar tools (asset).
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow structured testing protocols.
- Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
