Job Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of solar assets across project sites. The role involves fieldwork, equipment testing, safety compliance, and travel within the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct electrical testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain tools, meters, vehicle, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document system operability and downtime issues
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards in the field
- Respond to emergency maintenance cases as directed
- Travel to project sites regularly and work in the field and office environments
Requirements
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- OSHA 10 HR Training certification.
- NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace certification.
- Ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends.
- Must have the ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Work is to be performed in the field and in the office, requiring excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Understanding of and adherence to safety and quality procedures and practices, including the use of PPE such as hard hats, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Experience with conducting on-site routine maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities, including DC and AC testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance testing, and I-V curve tracing.
- 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as thermographic electrical inspection devices, IV curve tracers, megohmmeters, and ground fault detection tools.
- Diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- Preferred NABCEP Certified Installation Professional certification.
- Must be able to create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
- Ability to create operability and major issue downtime reports.
