Job Description
The Tool Room Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Tooling Department, focusing on the repair and overhaul of turbine jet engine components while ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality standards are met. This role combines supervisory responsibilities with hands-on machining tasks, requiring both technical expertise and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the safety and well-being of the team.
- Monitor assigned work and ensure adherence to work scope.
- Ensure production schedules are followed and adjusted as necessary.
- Utilize software for assigning, verifying, and tracking job assignments.
- Motivate, coach, and counsel team members.
- Manage personnel work hours and schedules.
- Participate in the interviewing and hiring process.
- Develop machining methods and processes for turbine engine components.
- Troubleshoot existing tooling and fixtures.
- Communicate with engineers and machinists to improve processes.
- Participate in repair development projects.
- Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately.
- Contribute to the training process for machinist technicians.
- Participate in production runs and assist in troubleshooting.
Requirements
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in Tool Room supervisory role in a manufacturing environment or aviation maintenance.
- Five (5) years Tool Room experience or similar as a machinist with knowledge or familiarity in one, all, or a combination of Machining skill Set Level 2, to include the set up and operation of Manual lathe, CNC Mill, and Bridgeport.
- Two (2) plus years of experience in creative problem solving on machine setups, tooling, and fixturing.
- Two (2) plus years experience in the understanding of GD&T, reading and the interpretation of shop drawings and technical diagrams.
- Experience in high strength alloy metal.
- Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of shop drawings and work scope instructions.
- Set-up experience with tooling and fixtures with the ability to follow instructions per technical drawings or work instructions.
- Familiar with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
- Read, write, speak, understand English, and be able to communicate with other employees.
- This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
- Move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
