Job Description
An experienced CNC VTL Machinist Technician responsible for precision machining of turbine engine components in a high-tech aerospace and marine manufacturing environment, ensuring parts meet OEM specifications through setup, operation, inspection, and troubleshooting of CNC vertical turret lathes.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow work instructions and use gauges and tools to inspect parts and determine material removal requirements.
- Operate CNC VTL machines to remove material and achieve specified dimensions.
- Use inspection tools to ensure dimensional accuracy of machined parts.
- Identify and correct machining issues related to tools, holders, collets, and chucks.
- Record inspection findings and work progress accurately.
- Perform finishing operations such as deburring, tapping, honing, and bench work.
- Participate in training and provide expertise in on-the-job training programs.
Requirements
- Five plus years of experience in the operation and set-up of CNC Turret Lathe VTL equipment in a job shop type environment, MTO made to order environment, with first article experience.
- Five plus years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, CNC programming, tooling, and fixturing.
- Firm understanding of GD T, critical dimensioning, and the relationship between dimensions.
- Rework experience on turbine engine components or similar precision parts.
- Strong understanding of shop math and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical drawings and blueprints.
- General bench skills including use of hand-held power tools, files, assembly, and disassembly.
- Experience indicating fixtures and parts to reduce runout and creating a flat plane for the start of the machining process.
- Basic CNC macro coding experience.
- Basic understanding of VTL work shift and G54 work offset.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate with other employees.
- Pre-employment testing requirements including fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift, move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
- Compliance with general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
